Rick started his professional career in the retail insurance field where he skillfully
grew his revenue and PROFITS. Through hard and soft markets alike he found a way to increase revenue and profits. His firm caught the eye of Brown & Brown, Inc. (BRO; NYSE) and was
asked to join them to help build their young western states operations. Brown acquired R W Mortimer & Associates Insurance Agents and Brokers, Inc. as a going concern.
Rick and his team continued to excel under Brown’s new ownership exceeding the cap on their earn out, serving on their national leadership council, and was quickly asked to assist in
M&A activities. This included leading due diligence efforts and merger talks in several cases. In addition to his Retail Profit Center Leadership (President) duties, he was asked to develop and
lead a new, from the ground up, wholesale division in the West. Through these efforts more than 15 million in new revenue was realized in the first two years of operations. His teams, in both his
Retail and Wholesale divisions (three offices in two States), repeatedly earned top honors in all measured goals of Brown, hitting caps on bonuses and earning stock options during his five years at
Brown.
Looking for a new challenge Rick accepted an offer from CAP-MPT’s CEO; to develop, and
execute a turnaround plan as sales and revenue had been on a steady decline. He and his team exceeded the board’s goals earning top honors and maximum bonuses in each of his two years with CAP. Rick
was the first, ever elected, non-physician board member in CAP’s history and served as a permanent member on their finance and audit committee.
In addition to the financial rewards that came with consistently exceeding written
goals, avoiding big mistakes, leading six start-ups, making more than 30 acquisitions, leading two mergers, one divesture and one liquidation, here are a few other accomplishments; include national
recognition as an invited guest speaker at MGMA and PIAA, published author in AM BEST Review, California Physicians Magazine, and MGMA Connection to name a few. He is also a quoted expert in AM BEST,
National Underwriters among other prominent insurance industry publications.
Today Rick handles consulting assignments, participated in Angel Investing (early stage
development space) and continued his property development and management service company activities.
